Lower-Calf Soft-Tissue Mobilization demonstration

How to do it

  1. Sit with one ankle resting across the opposite thigh so you can reach the lower calf.
  2. Use the fingers or thumbs to apply moderate pressure to the muscular lower-calf region.
  3. Work slowly through the area while gently pumping the ankle up and down; do not try to isolate one deep muscle.

Form cues

  • Avoid the Achilles tendon, shin bone and area directly behind the knee.
  • Do not massage unexplained swollen, hot or red calf tissue.
  • Stop for numbness, tingling, electrical pain, bruising or worsening symptoms.
